Fouad Khedir to Echorouk: “I wish to play as a striker before USA”

Algeria’s World Cup team midfielder Fouad Khedir said he feels proud, as he becomes one of the Algerian key players; “My dream was to play for Algeria during the World Cup, now it become true and this is amazing”.

• Echorouk: How things are going with you before the match against USA?

• Fouad Khedir: I think things are good, after the positive draw against England. After loosing before Slovenia, we were upset but we did not lose confidence and trust on our abilities and we showed a good performance before England. I think we can do better before USA.

• Echorouk: Algerian fans would feel very proud of you and happy if you win over USA and reach the second round.
•  
• Fouad Khedir: This is our aim. We will play a tough match, as the U.S. team is not here for tourism; it looks forward to qualify and has better opportunities, therefore I expect a difficult match, but at the same time we have nothing to lose and we will do our best to win.

• Echorouk: Victory over USA equals a historical achievement for the Algerian football. Are you ready for that?

• Fouad Khedir: I think the opportunity is favorable to realize victory in the World Cup and before USA. In the past we focused much in defense, now came the role of the attack.

• Echorouk: Perhaps it is your opportunity to play as a striker.
•  
• Fouad Khedir: I feel responsible in both defense and attack, according to Coach Rabah Saadane we should focus more on the attack.

• Echorouk: Do you feel pressure because of your new tasks?
•  
• Fouad Khadir: No. Everyone should know that the nature of the modern football requires coping with defensive and offensive tactics. We are not in the sixties of last century, when each player booked his place in stadium, things always change.

• Echorouk: Do you fear Algerian players would feel lost because of the continuous changes of the plan?
•  
• Fouad Khedir: I do not think so. Our team has professionals who play in strong European championships. Everyone is coping with the plan; therefore, we do not fear these changes.

• Echorouk: Are you satisfied with your performance in the Algerian team?

• Fouad Khedir: Humans always search for the better, but I am satisfied with my performance. I turned at a glance from an ignored player to a key Algerian player; therefore, I am happy because my dream becomes true.

• Echorouk: Can you play as a left-winger?
•  
• Fouad Khedir: Although I prefer playing as a midfielder, but I am ready to play at any position if this would bring positive results to my team.

• Echorouk: There is a talk about adopting a plan of attack when facing USA. Will you play as a striker?

• Fouad Khedir: Coach Rabah Saadane did not talk to me about this matter. However, I am ready to play as a striker or at nay other position.

• Echorouk: What are your feelings since you played before English stars?

• Fouad Khedir: I feel proud; they do not scare me any more.
